Losing Ain't Easy!

For years I have struggled with my weight, but this time around I decided enough was enough. I am so tired of not being able to live and to actively participate in parenting my girls. I'm tired of being a poor example of healthy living. So, I have opted for weight loss surgery. If all goes as planned I have chosen the Vertical Gastric Sleeve, which basically means that my stomach will be shaped like a banana after surgery instead of a grapefruit for instance.

I have heard some people say that weight loss surgery is the "easy way out", even resorted to calling those opting for surgery "sell outs" because the weight isn't lost the "old fashioned way". Well, I'll be honest with you, I thought it was an easy way out when I initially considered the surgery over a year and a half ago. Today, I think much differently.

The surgery is the beginning of a mandatory lifestyle change. You can never think about food again the way you have previously. There are things you can never eat or drink again AND to dispel those myths about being a sell out, SURGERY IS ONLY A TOOL! You still have to change what, how, even when you eat, you still have to exercise... I wouldn't exactly call that "easy". Would you?

Whether you decide to have surgery or to lose the weight completely on your own, you are still changing your life for the rest of your life. You are still giving up certain foods and a whole way of living that you've gotten used to. Whatever way you choose to lose the weight, it's a sacrifice to become healthy and to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

My theory is that if you aren't living healthy, eating whatever you want whenever you want, THAT is actually the "easy way out". Eating whatever you want doesn't require any real change in thought processes or action. Having been on both sides of the fence, I feel that lack of discipline in anything, at the very least, is just plain lazy.

Regardless of what's being said, I made the decision to change my life for good and it's the best decision I've ever made. I don't need anyone to agree with me about getting healthy, it's a personal choice; a choice that I have chosen to share and to encourage others to get healthy. How you achieve your weight loss/health goals are solely up to you.
